Ways to Support Selkirk

Every contribution helps us create something special for our students.

As a registered nonprofit, Selkirk Montessori relies on the generosity and involvement of our community to keep doing what we do. Whether you have time, talent, or resources to share, there are many ways to make a difference. Every bit of support goes directly toward enriching the experience for our students.

Bursary Program

For many years, our bursary program has helped children continue their Montessori education during temporary financial hardship. Traditionally funded through operating revenue, the program has been a source of pride since the early days of the Pacific Montessori Society.

After moving from Oaklands to the Selkirk Waterfront, we began fundraising to create a self-sustaining bursary fund outside the operating budget. Over time, investment income will help cover bursaries and reduce reliance on school revenue.

Since 1998, our community has raised over $50,000. Last year, this enabled us to establish the Roots & Wings Bursary Fund with the Victoria Foundation, which contributed an additional $7,500, bringing the total to $57,500.

Founded in 1936, the Victoria Foundation manages permanent, income-generating funds that support hundreds of charities. Its assets under administration now exceed $609 million, supporting innovative programs that strengthen the Victoria community.

There are several ways to contribute. Donations can be made directly to the Pacific Montessori Society at accounting@selkirkmontessori.ca (please note the donation is for the Roots & Wings Bursary Fund). Tax receipts are issued for donations over $20.

Donations can also be made through the Victoria Foundation by selecting the Roots & Wings Bursary Fund under Hosted Organization Funds. The Foundation also offers options for legacy gifts and bequests.

Volunteer Your Time

Selkirk is built on community involvement. There are plenty of ways to lend a hand throughout the school year, from helping with field studies and classroom activities to supporting school events and special projects. Volunteering is also a wonderful way to get to know the school, the staff, and other families.

Join the Selkirk Parent Group

The Selkirk Parent Group (SPG) is the heart of our parent community. The SPG organizes fundraising events, social gatherings, and community-building activities throughout the year. All caregivers are automatically members, and there are always opportunities to get involved, whether you can commit to a regular role or just want to pitch in for a single event.

Serve on the Board

Selkirk is governed by the Pacific Montessori Society, and our Board of Directors is made up of parent volunteers who serve three-year terms. If you're interested in school governance, strategic planning, and helping shape the future of Selkirk, the Board is a meaningful way to contribute.

Spread the Word

Sometimes the simplest way to support Selkirk is to tell people about us. If your family has had a positive experience, share it with friends, neighbours, or anyone who might be looking for a school. Word of mouth from our community is one of the most powerful ways we grow.

Other Ways to Help

There are always needs popping up throughout the year, from donating supplies and materials to sharing professional expertise or community connections. If you have something to offer that doesn't fit neatly into the categories above, we'd love to hear from you.
